Temple History :

Sri Antha Padmanabhaswami temple is located in inside the east fort in thiruvananthapuram ,the capital city of Kerala state.This temple is a blend of the keral and Dravidan style of architecture.

The origin of the temple sree padmanabhaswami is lost in antiquity.It is not possible to determine with any exactitude from any reliable historical documents or other sources as to when and by whome the original idol of sree padmanabhaswami was consecrated.

The history of sree Padmanabhasswami temple dates back to 8th centuary.It is one of the 108 sacred Vishnu temples.The Marthandavarma the noted among Travancore kings(Kerala) did a major renovation to the temple and it resulted in the present day structure of the sree Padmanabhaswami temple in 1750 Marthanda varma dedicated the kingdom of Travancore to lord Padmanabha.The lord Padmanabha swamy slept on the Nagasesha in the temple so this place is named as Ananthasayanam and also named as “Ananthavanam”.

The creator Brahma was occurred from the Mahavishnunabhi.So the lord mahavishnu was called as Anantha Padmanabha in this temple.The lord Anantha Padmanabhaswamy was shrined with his consort sriharilakshmi tayaru .In the corner of Esanya there is a pond called Padmateertham.This temple having 100 feet of Rajagopuram with attractive sculpture.In this temple other gods like Srirama,Sitadevi,Hanuman,SriKrishna,Ayyppa also here According to legends Divakara Muni was a great Vishnu Bhaktha.While at “Aanarthadesa” he performed deep tapas.Oneday lord Vishnu appeared before the says as a lovely child.The child attracted the attention before the says he request god to do stay with him.This was accepted and child stay with him.He said gave great care and tolerated the childish pranks.Oneday the sage was in meditation at his prayers,the child took the salagram which the sage using for worship and put it into his mouth and made nuisance of himself.Then the sage chastised the child immediately the child ran away and disappeared from the spot.While going he said if you wish to see again you will find in ‘’Ananthankaadu’’.Finally he reached awooded area near the sea coast.The child disappear into a huge “ILAPPA” tree.Immediately the tree fell on the ground and it assumed the form of sree Mahavishnu.The divine form its head at Thiruvallam and feet at “Tripapur”.The sage prayed to lord Mahavishnu it ishard to common devotees for darshan of Mahavishnu.Then Mahavishnu formed himself as present Moolavirat.
